WiFi Calling

No signal doesn't have to mean out of touch...

Widecombe in the Moor, like much of Dartmoor and many other beautiful rural areas, has no mobile signal. This can be a surprise to some visitors in an age when we are used to being permanently connected to the comings and goings of the wider world.

Some of our guests relish the freedom from the ceaseless flow of updates and notifications, and the opportunity for a digital detox, but fortunately for the rest of us, the lack of a mobile signal doesn't have to mean being out of touch.

Most smartphones and mobile network providers now support WiFi Calling - when this is enabled calls and texts to and from your mobile number will be routed over WiFi if there is no mobile signal. Our cottages offer free broadband and WiFi, so you have a choice about how connected you are with the outside world during your stay.

Enabling WiFi Calling

The following links will help you enable WiFi Calling for your device and find out about support from your network provider.

Apps such as WhatsApp, Skype and Messenger are good alternatives if WiFi Calling is not available with your network provider.
