Just a few ideas to help you plan your stay with us...

At any time of year, Lower Venton is a peaceful and cosy place to relax and do nothing if that's your perfect break, alternatively there are plenty of walks nearby and lovely towns and villages where you will find great eateries, entertainment and experiences.

Things We Like

These are not exactly recommendations, tastes vary, but we hope it's a starting point for your own voyage of discovery!

Our local pubs (The Rugglestone and The Old Inn) are very friendly and have the advantage of being only a short walk from the doorstep, so very convenient for eating out. The Cafe on the Green (also in the village) is a great place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, a light lunch or coffee and a cake. Slightly further afield we like Ullacombe Farm for a hearty farmhouse breakfast, Cafe 360 in Bovey Tracey for brunch and the Rock Inn at Haytor for dinner with a more refined menu.

For short day trips, there are the picturesque local towns of Ashburton and Bovey Tracey. The Dartmoor Whisky Distillery in Bovey is worth a visit but check times online. Ashburton is very foodie and has a fantastic vegetarian restaurant - Rafikis. Tavistock is one of the larger Dartmoor towns with beautiful architecture and a great market - the Cornish Arms is one of the best gastropubs in the area and a great place for Sunday lunch, booking is essential. Dartmouth on the coast is very picturesque and has plenty to see and some fantastic walks around the coast - it’s also home to a very well known local artist, Simon Drew, and his gallery in Foss Street is worth a visit. Nearby Torcross is home to the Start Bay Inn which we think serves the best Fish & Chips - nothing fancy, just fresh from the sea that day!
